In 2014, the New York Declaration on Forests (NYDF) announced the objective to reduce the rate of deforestation by half by 2020. Organized around the annual UN General Assembly meeting, it was endorsed by 200 governments, multinational companies, groups representing indigenous communities, and non-governmental organizations. Annual assessments made since then have indicated that targets have not been reached, despite companies working to strengthen sourcing policies, procure certified supplies, and trace value chains.
Collaboration across different sectors with divergent goals is needed to achieve the targeted progress. Solving complex problems like deforestation-free commodities while balancing it with necessary developments can only be achieved through collective action.
The situation presents the need to create a platform to bridge information and facilitate collaborations, which leads to the development of Green Growth Hub. The platform aims to foster a strong, collaborative relationship among the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
